Testimonials

“I am a third grade teacher and my classroom has been participating in the Walk Across America Program set up at our school. Every child in the class is participating and is excited to reach the personal goals that they set for themselves. The program has not only increases physical activity but also helped them to learn. What I find most beneficial is the concept of a team. We all participate and understand that everyone matters in reaching our goals.”
Jennifer Stover - Third Grade Teacher

“I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your donations and support the NCHA has shown to our small community and our much deserving students. The involvement of many different areas of classroom education has helped solidify the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The students are receiving instruction in all areas, from their homerooms, to art, health, library, music and physical education. The development of this program is truly outstanding. The children are not only learning about a healthy lifestyle, but have expanded their classroom retention, developed a sense of responsibility and have done all of this learning without realizing it!”
Rebecca Pezzimenti - Fourth Grade Teacher

“I am writing to share my excitement about the Walk Across America program. First, and foremost, students are moving! They discuss their steps with each other daily, and are so proud of themselves when they discover how many steps they have walked in one day. This program has also helped my personal life. Since I am the proud parent of a third grader at Honeoye Central, my daughter and I have friendly competitions to see who can log the most steps.”
Elin Orman - Fifth Grade Teacher

“Students are eager to wear pedometers and record a day to day total of their steps. This program easily integrates into curriculum, enhances student learning and is a fun experience for the children as well as the staff.”

“The students and faculty here are delighted to be participating in the Walk Across America program. Each week, students continue to keep track of their steps using their pedometers. This program is truly proving to be a fun, educational experience that is easy to manage.”
Laurie Bailey - Fifth Grade Teacher

“This experience is very successful, as the children are enthusiastic and motivated to continue to gain exercise as they acquire knowledge about the country’s geography. Many of the students within my class enjoy walking with their families at home, as well as walking in school. The children discuss how many steps they take and strive to walk more each week. The learning skills of the children in my class is enhanced as they learn more about math and geography with each state they “walk” across. This is a fun experience for the children.”
Laura Lathrop - Fifth Grade Teacher

“Beyond the wonderful things the children get out of this program, in a months time, I personally have more than doubled my walking distance from two miles a day to five. We have had a lot of fun while learning and getting fit.”
Mrs. Schuster - Fifth Grade Teacher

“It is my opinion that this program is both beneficial to the students’ health and can be used to enhance classroom learning. I have seen firsthand how enthused my students are about being part of this program. Most of my students wear his or her pedometer every day and hand in their results every week. I have even seen students walking around the classroom reading books during free time rather than sitting and reading, so that they pile up more steps. I use entries from their pedometer sheets as example problems in math class, and encourage my students to do the same on their work.”
